Added Value: An Alternative Book Sale

Over the course of a weekend, Added Value turned SFMOMA’s Schwab Hall into a public book sale with a twist. With atypical categories and intentional book pairings, Added Value set out to explore what value can be added to material when viewed in varying contexts. The day also included screenings, talks, and commissioned artist projects involving the manipulation and transformation of books-as-knowledge. Take a look at our Added Value Poster for the full breakdown of the book sale, the organizations involved, and how our community re-purposes materials to fuel, support, and expand public knowledge.

This fun activity can uncover related areas of interest that have yet to gain space on your shelf, helping to pave your way towards more diverse sources of knowledge and perspectives.

Added Value: Behind the Scenes

Take a look at some behind the scenes photos of this alternative book sale. From brainstorming to shelf building, artist Stephanie Syjuco and the Public Knowledge team took a critical eye to the way information and books are valued, contextualized, and criticized.
